Walking On Roofs In The Clouds, Masuleh, Iran by Ian Wadham

Features

ARTIST NOTES: The mountainside at Masuleh, in Iran, is so steep that people use the roofs of houses as streets. Even the mosque is on the roof of another building. The yellow walls improve visibility in the fog, they say. Most houses are 2 storeys high, maybe to save labour digging in the bedrock.

ARTIST BIO

I learned to draw and paint at school and university in England, but have always been deeply interested in art and visit major galleries and exhibitions whenever there is an opportunity. My favourite masters are Breughel, Rembrandt, Turner, Hokusai, Hiroshige, van Gogh, Picasso and Salvador Dali.

After migrating to Australia I became a computer professional, which did not leave much time for painting, but since retirement I have resumed painting, in watercolour in 2016 and acrylics since 2017.

In 2017 I joined the Hughesdale Art Group, where a number of artists in a range of media meet weekly in an Open Studio environment. They have an annual Exhibition in November and a space at the Melbourne Flower and Garden Show in autumn.

Since 2018 I have entered public shows each year at Melbourne Flower and Garden, Mornington, Knox, Camberwell, Bayside, Hobsons Bay and Moonee Valley, with a high rate of acceptance and some sales. I like to paint landscapes, seascapes and portraits of trees and have recently branched out into abstracts.
