Peter began painting seriously when he was working in the Kimberley of North West Australia. As a hobby initially the first exhibitions in Halls Creek and Kunnunurra proved to be fortuitous. As he won Best oil ,acrylic drawing and "People's Choice". Somethinghe still regards as the most valuable award to win at any exhibition. Then onto the West Kimberley to win Best oil and people's choice again.
He spent nearly 10 years in the Kimberley throughout the diamond boom and also working for the Agriculture Protection Board assigned to look after 30 cattle stations (approx. 27 million acres). His work in these jobs entailed him to absorb his srrounds as he had done prior all over the Kimberley.
Peter eventually traveeled to North Queensland to paint the beautiful rain forest and surrrounds for several years. Successful, yes by now, he had been a partner in two galleries and involved in the Innisfail Art Society as artist and president,it didnt keep him from producing art work. However, his roots were from the Mallee in Victoria where he grew up on a wheat/sheep farm and had left to travel Australia,working in many employs including the SAS in WA,playing music professionally,his work in the diamond fields of the Kimbeley pegging claims.
Once particular block of claims was over the present diamond mine which was Ashton/CRA venture. Now one of the biggest diamond mines in the world. He's seen a bit! |
