Preserving The Russell Falls Through Painting by Anthony Christou

Features

ARTIST NOTES: The Russell Falls are one of the most inspiring waterfalls of Australia. Once you visit them your soul is enlightened, you feel at one with nature and in balance and harmony with the world. Climate change and global warming is having an impact on our planet and it is incredibly important to preserve natural parks like these and many others for future generations. In my painting I wanted to create a very detailed and realistic painting of my visit to the Russell Falls. This was to capture the beauty, tranquillity and peace I felt. In capturing this landscape, I hope to raise awareness to the beauty of our wonderful environments. I hope that this art can further instil the general public and humanities appreciation of our wilderness and the natural world. I hope that in ten years I can take my own children and nieces and nephews to visit this park and they will see it as I saw it.

This artwork is part of my preserving through painting series. My goal is to capture the natural landscape and wonders of Australia, New Zealand and the world. This is a record of how our landscape is at the present time. You may ask why painting and not photography? I feel that painting allows for textural qualities to the surface I am able to paint impasto and give the painting a textured feeling and thick surface to give it more life than a photo. Also as an artist I am able to accentuate moody lighting and also see what a camera does not see.
