ARTIST STATEMENT:
My parents were survivors of the 2nd World War and "the Holocaust" and though I grew up in a loving family environment the past was never spoken of.
Art and my form of wxpression derives from that 'vacuum' and from being an intense observer of people from all walks of life.
'The Mask', representing 'respectability', 'niceness' and 'performance' and hiding the REAL inner state has become a very important theme.
In my work I attempt to show these inner states throiugh the use of transparent materials and through the vivid distorting of form and anatomy that draw influences from Cubism, Expressionism and Primitive art. What I am attempting to do is ask the viewer, throuigh connection with my work, to get in touch with his or her 'authentic self'.
