A Drop In The Ocean by Derek Schneider

Features

ARTIST NOTES: As with "Beat the heat" this painting aims to capture all the fun and joy of heading out into the waves on a hot summers day. The colours and enormity of the ocean before you, the power of the waves....you glide along, propelled to the shore as a wave takes you in, you rush out to catch another. I am always taken by the colour of the changing water, the sun on your skin and that incredible vitality you feel as you splash around.

ARTIST BIO

Ever since i could clasp my chubby little fingers around a pencil i have felt a strong urge to create and capture, to bring ideas to life and to challenge my own abilities. As a teenager i exhibited at various local shows, winning prizes and encouragement. I graduated from Graphic Design at RMIT and landed my first job as an art director in an advertising agency. 35 years later i feel incredibly priviledged to have worked with so many "industry creatives" to create many memorable campaigns.

Throughout those years i continued to draw and develop ideas but only in the last 18 months has the opportunity arisen where i can now focus on painting, and in many ways it's a journey that is just beginning.

Working from a studio in Richmond i have been focussing on topics that bring joy to my life and hopefully the lives of others too. Having a "graphic" art background, i look to color and form to frame my paintings. Our beaches in summer and snow covered alps in winter provide that ideal setting for my art. Adopting a "birds-eye" view and a largely monochromatic backdrop means i can introduce bursts of color from beachgoers to skiers, whilst mainting a slightly unconventional and arguably more contemporary representation of the Australian landscape genre.

Keeping interior design trends in mind, my aim is introduce some of life's little pleasure into the modern home, and responses to date have been most encouraging. I look forward to seeing this journey develop.
